GM Update May 2016

Message from Matthew Hazelden

The sun has finally starting shining and the golf courses are coming along really well. The New is in exceptional condition, with the greens stimping at around 11.5. I must commend Rob and his team for their work out there. The Old Course is also starting to come into its own with the weather over the last week bringing it to life. Hopefully the greens will be back to their best very shortly.

Halfway House Update

As many of you will be aware the halfway house has now been clad and is currently being fitted out. The two trenches that you will see on the course are to run wifi and telephone lines to the house, and the other from the substation to give power. We have managed to get UK Power Networks down to hook up the house on the 19th May. Once these works have been completed the halfway house will be nearer opening. I will communicate the official opening day as soon as I am aware.

New Course Tree Work

If you have visited the club over the last couple of days you may have noticed that we have brought the canopy of the Wellingtonia’s up by about 30ft. This means that you can now see the 18th tee from the majority of the terrace and those sparkling tee shots that hop into the river will be more evident to the spectators. It will also increase the airflow around the green and hopefully help to keep the area a little dryer.

New Members of Staff

Although we discuss some of them later on in the newsletter, I would like to introduce you to a few of our new members of staff. On the F&B team we have Julie Morley, who has been training In the bar but will be in the halfway house when it opens. Ben Moran will also start shortly as F&B Supervisor. In the shop we have Jackson Jones, who has come over from Hoebridge to continue his PGA. We also have two new assistant greenkeepers in Steve Walker and Sam Bailey.

I hope everyone is starting to enjoy their golf here at Burhill, don’t forget to keep up to date with everything that’s going on here at Burhill through the Intelligent Golf portal. I look forward to seeing you all at the club soon.
