Lessons
Burhill Golf Club is committed to developing the skills of junior golfers in Surrey, with our Golf Academy operating regular weekend classes and school holiday ‘camps’, popular for children aged 5 to 12 years. In addition to group classes, individual coaching is available.
Membership
Our Junior memberships are designed to introduce the next generation of top players from 10 years old to the game of golf, providing them with access to golf courses, playing in a competitions and making new friends in a fun environment. We currently have a waiting list for junior membership so it’s a great idea to register the budding golfers early!
Junior Excellence
Freddie Surgey
Freddie joined Burhill in June 2016. He was part of the Junior Development Programme at the club which helped him gain recognition for his play at an early age. This led to him being selected for Surrey Under 12s development squad. He has then played county level golf at every age group and over the past few years has been an integral part of Surrey Men’s 1st team. During his time as a Burhill Junior he also got selected for the England Under 18’s Regional squad. His Junior record has helped him secure a Golf Scholarship in America playing in the NCAA Division 1.
Aaron Moody
Aaron Moody is the Junior Captain of our club and one of the most promising young golfers in the region. He has already made a name for himself with outstanding performances at national level. At the English U18 Championship at Farnham Golf Club, Aaron produced a standout final round, shooting a course-record 64 (8 under par) to finish just one shot outside a playoff. More recently, he claimed victory at the Scottish Boys U16 Open Championship at Peebles. Leading from the front, Aaron showed his grit and determination by recovering from three late bogeys to birdie the 18th and secure the title by a single shot.
Aaron’s hard work led to a call up to the England Under 16 squad where he represented his country against Ireland at Ballybunion Golf Club in October 2025.
Paul Casey
Paul Casey is one of golf’s most respected players, with a career wins on both the European and PGA Tours. His journey began at Burhill, which he joined in 1992 as a junior member. Casey demonstrated exceptional talent, winning numerous titles including the 1995 Surrey Junior Championship and the 1997 Colts Championship. Casey’s technical proficiency and consistent performance have made him a respected figure in the sport, and his roots at Burhill remain an important part of his golfing story.
Meet the Team
Darren Wood
Head of Golf Operations
As Head of Golf Operations, Darren joined Burhill from The RAC Club in Autumn 2021. He spent almost 20 years in variety of roles at that club. Darren spent 10 years coaching the Surrey Under 14’s as part of the County Academy Program with several Burhill Members coming through the Surrey set up. He started his golf journey as a junior member of Hawick GC in the Scottish borders, competing in home events and junior events around Scotland.
Morgan Kennedy
PGA Professional
Morgan joined the professional staff at Burhill in 2014, previously to that he spent time competing and teaching in Australia and working at Celtic Manor. Since he joined Burhill he has played a key role in expanding the junior development program. His experiences as a professional golfer, knowledge of the golf swing and background as a specialist club fitter have given him all the tools to help improve all golfers.
Sammy Haywood
Head Assistant PGA Professional
Sammy has been at Burhill his entire working career since leaving school. He first started working with the greenkeeping team including helping at the range. Sammy has recently qualified his PGA Professional Golf Qualification whilst working in the golf operations team and earned employee of the year in 2022. Sammy is a keen Fulham fan following them home and away. You may also see him out running to stay fit & healthy.
Jonathan Bowen
PGA Professional
Jonathan joined Burhill in September 2023 bringing 7 years of experience in the golf industry having worked at the Royal Automobile Club and most recently at Wentworth Club. Jonathan is a fully qualified PGA Professional where he finished Top 10 in his class and enjoys helping improve people’s golf game. In his spare time, Jonathan loves challenging himself where he participates in ironman triathlons.
