Burhill Captains
Men’s Captain – Peter
I took up golf as a junior on the downs at Goodwood, beginning a lifelong love affair with the game. In the early 90s, I spent three fabulous years in Oman, where I was Hon Sec of Ghala Wentworth GC. Unlike its illustrious Surrey namesake, it was a sand course with “browns”, but so much fun!
I’ve been a member at Burhill since 2010, moving from Worplesdon to play golf close to home in Walton. Burhill is a wonderful club, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the variety of social & competitive playing. I served on the Committee as Joint Competitions Secretary for three years from 2021 and returned as Vice-Captain in 2025.
Stepping up to the Captaincy in 2026 is an honour and a privilege. I will do my utmost to serve the membership, and please do contact me with any comments & suggestions for further improvements in 2026.
Ladies Captain – Susan
I joined Burhill in 2016 upon my return from Australia having lived there for 4 years with my husband David. I was a member of The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide and prior to that had been a member of The Drift for 10 years. I’ve served on The Ladies Committee, The Junior Committee and The Social Committee as well as captaining Wales in The Nations Cup. I represented Burhill many times including in both The Pearson and The Centenary Bowl. My working life saw me holding down two jobs, banker by day and singer by night and I’ve continued my singing career as a member of our members’ band “Perfect Lie”
Junior Captain’s – Finley & Grace
Finlay Fergusson and Grace Taylor have been appointed joint Junior Captains for the 2026 season. Both are long-standing members of the club, having joined in 2018 and 2020 respectively, and represent true home-grown talent developed through our Junior Development Programme.
Already highly accomplished golfers, Finlay and Grace both have tremendous potential for the future. Finlay is the current Surrey County Under-16 Champion and a member of the Scottish Boys’ Training Squad. Grace recently won the Surrey Monk Plate and has since been selected for the South of England Regional Girls’ Squad.

We’re thrilled to partner with the Urology and Cardiology departments at our local Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals. These areas are very close to our hearts – Peter has been successfully treated for prostate cancer, and Susan’s son Robert, born with a congenital heart condition, has had many operations and procedure and is now a healthy 33 year old…

Meet the Team
Wesley Cooper
Interim General Manager
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Wesley Cooper as Interim General Manager and delighted to welcome him back to Burhill, where many members will remember his five years with the club earlier in his career.
Most recently, he has worked as a management consultant supporting leading clubs including Frilford Heath and West Herts, delivering strategic and capital projects.
Previously, Wesley served as General Manager at The Buckinghamshire and as CEO of Moor Park, leading major clubhouse and course developments.
Darren Wood
Head of Golf Operations
Darren joined in 2021, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his 19 years at the prestigious RAC.
In 2011, he became a fully qualified PGA Professional, and now leads the Golf Operations team with a focus on excellence, ensuring members and guests enjoy the best on and off the course. Darren continues to play a key role in upholding Burhill’s reputation as one of Surrey’s finest golfing venues.
Stuart Barr
Head of Clubhouse Operations
Stuart has over 25 years of experience in the private members club sector, providing a wealth of knowledge and expertise in enhancing the member experience, having dedicated his career to understanding the unique needs and preferences of club members. His ongoing commitment to fostering a welcoming and enjoyable environment aligns perfectly with our mission at Burhill Golf Club.
Rob Surgey
Senior Course Manager
Rob has a distinguished career that includes experience at renowned venues like Wentworth and The Forest of Arden, bringing a wealth of knowledge to our courses. He has expertly prepared for over 11 European Tour events. Rob’s commitment to excellence and his profound understanding of course management ensures that our courses remain in pristine condition for an outstanding golfing experience.
David Hanlon
Executive Chef
David, whose award-winning culinary expertise brings exceptional dining experiences to our members and guests. With over 35 years of experience in the industry, David has honed his skills at prestigious clubs such as Foxhills and Oakley Court. His cooking style reflects a contemporary British flair, showcasing his deep passion for locally sourced, seasonal, and fresh produce. This distinctive approach shines through in every special menu he creates.
